What is a Norwegian AI receptionist?

Where Norwegian-language phone answering helps
When a Norwegian-speaking caller hears a friendly answer in Norwegian, booking, asking a question or leaving a message is easier for them and for your team.

Tour operators and accommodation
Visitors can book a tour or a room, ask about meeting points and times or change a booking in Norwegian, while your crew stays focused on the guests in front of them.

Accountants and bookkeepers
Clients can book a meeting, check which documents to bring or leave a message for their accountant in Norwegian. Questions that need advice go straight to your team.

Schools and study providers
Families and exchange students can ask about enrolment, term dates and campus tours in Norwegian, book a meeting or leave a message for the office.

Real estate agencies
Buyers and renters can book a viewing or ask about a listing in Norwegian. Your agent gets the caller's details and questions in English, ready to follow up.
How we set up your Norwegian AI receptionist
Three steps. We do the heavy lifting.
Tell us about your callers
Which languages they speak, what they call about, and what a good call ends with: a booking, a message or a transfer.
We build and test it in Norwegian
Your greeting, hours, services and booking rules in English and Norwegian, tested on calls with your own names and places.
Go live on your number
Forward your existing number. Every call comes with a transcript and summary, and we keep improving it.
What makes Norwegian-language calls different?
Speaking Norwegian well on the phone takes more than translating English sentences.
One Oslo voice, many dialects
Kari speaks with an Oslo accent. Only two Norwegian voices with native accents are available, and there is no Western, Trøndelag or Northern Norwegian voice. Callers from Bergen to Tromsø can talk to Kari. We test with your own callers before go-live.
Bokmål, not Nynorsk
Norwegian has two written standards, Bokmål and Nynorsk. Kari speaks a form close to Bokmål, the one most Norwegians write. Callers who speak Nynorsk or a strong dialect can talk to Kari, we test with your own callers before go-live, and your team gets every summary in English.
Phone numbers said in pairs
Norwegians often say phone numbers in pairs, like "førtifem, sekstisju" (45, 67), and some older callers still count "fem og førti" instead of "førtifem". In our tests a spoken phone number came through wrong, so Kari reads every number back digit by digit and asks the caller to confirm before saving it.
Du is polite enough
Modern Norwegian uses "du" with almost everyone, including on a business line. The old formal "De" now sounds stiff or odd to most callers. The receptionist uses du, keeps a friendly tone, and spells out names with æ, ø and å when it needs to confirm them.
An example call in Norwegian
A visitor books a Saturday tour for four people and the agent reads her phone number back digit by digit. Illustrative example, not a recording.

Kari
Takk, Ingrid. Jeg leser nummeret tilbake, siffer for siffer: null, to, en, fire, fem, seks, sju, åtte, ni. Stemmer det?
Thanks, Ingrid. I'll read the number back, digit by digit: 0 2 1 4 5 6 7 8 9. Is that right?
Caller
Ja, det stemmer.
Yes, that's right.
Kari
Flott. Da har jeg reservert fire plasser lørdag 24. oktober klokka ni. Vi sees på lørdag, ha en fin dag!
Great. I've reserved four places on Saturday 24 October at nine. See you on Saturday, have a nice day!

Norwegian AI receptionist: common questions
Which Norwegian accents does the AI receptionist speak?
One: Kari has a female voice with an Oslo accent, speaking Bokmål. Only two Norwegian voices with native accents are available, and there is no Western, Trøndelag or Northern Norwegian voice. Callers with other dialects can talk to Kari too, and before go-live we run test calls with your own callers so you can hear how it handles them.
Can callers switch between English and Norwegian?
Yes. The receptionist switches to Norwegian when a caller asks for it or starts speaking Norwegian, and back to English the same way. It switches between turns, not in the middle of a sentence, so it is easiest to follow when each sentence stays in one language.
Does it understand phone numbers spoken in Norwegian?
Not perfectly on its own. In our tests a phone number spoken in Norwegian came through with a mistake, so Kari reads every number back to the caller digit by digit and asks them to confirm before saving it. Any error gets fixed on the call.
Can callers with a strong dialect use it?
Yes, they can talk to it. Kari replies in Oslo Norwegian whatever dialect the caller speaks. Before go-live we run test calls with your own callers so you can hear how it handles their dialect.
Can I try a Norwegian demo now?
Yes. Talk to the Norwegian agent on this page, in your browser. Calls run for up to four minutes.
Can we keep our 1300 or 1800 number?
Yes. You keep your number and forward calls to the AI receptionist, all the time or only when you are busy, do not answer or are closed. A mobile number can forward the same way. You do not need a new number.
Can it transfer calls to our staff and send a summary?
Yes. It can put a caller through to a staff member's mobile when they need a person, and it sends a summary of every call to your team, with the transcript in your portal.
Can it give medical, legal or financial advice in Norwegian?
No. In regulated industries the agent handles admin only: bookings, opening hours, directions and messages. Anything that needs advice goes to your qualified staff.
Does a Norwegian receptionist cost more than English?
No. Norwegian calls are charged at the same per-minute rate as English, from 95c a minute down to 77c in New Zealand and 71c in Australia. Credit never expires and every plan has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Where is call data stored?
Transcripts, call records, contact details and billing are stored in Sydney. The live audio, recording files, speech processing and the language model run offshore. We meet cross-border accountability requirements through documented arrangements with our voice infrastructure partner.
