What is a French AI receptionist?
A French AI receptionist answers your business phone in French or English, so visitors, students and business contacts get answers, bookings and messages taken without waiting for a staff member.
Waboom AI offers two voices: Camille with a Parisian accent and Étienne with a Canadian French accent. Built for businesses across New Zealand and Australia.

Where French-language phone answering helps
For businesses that welcome French-speaking visitors, students and trading partners, an answer in French makes the first call easy.

International education
Answer French-speaking students and parents about courses, intakes, homestays and enrolment steps, including calls that arrive overnight from another time zone. The receptionist books a call with your international team and sends them a summary in English.

Tours and activities
Visitors from France, New Caledonia, Tahiti and Canada can check times, meeting points and availability, and book in French.

Hotels, restaurants and hospitality
Reservations, check-in times, directions and approved menu questions in French, while your front desk looks after the guests in front of them.

Exporters and professional services
Give French-speaking clients and partners in the Pacific and Europe a polished first answer. The receptionist takes the enquiry, books a meeting and passes it to the right person.

Retail and online stores
Opening hours, stock questions, order follow-ups and click and collect in French, with anything unusual passed to your team.
How we set up your French AI receptionist
Three steps. We do the heavy lifting.
Tell us about your callers
Which languages they speak, what they call about, and what a good call ends with: a booking, a message or a transfer.
We build and test it in French
Your greeting, hours, services and booking rules in English and French, tested on calls with your own names and places.
Go live on your number
Forward your existing number. Every call comes with a transcript and summary, and we keep improving it.
What makes French-language calls different?
Speaking French well on the phone takes more than translating English sentences.
Parisian and Canadian voices
Camille speaks with a Parisian accent and Étienne with a Canadian French one. French speakers from Belgium, Switzerland, New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Africa can talk to Camille or Étienne too, but these are the only two voices on offer. Try both and choose the one that suits your callers.
Vous and tu
French separates a polite "vous" from a familiar "tu", and getting it wrong on a first call sounds rude or stiff. The receptionist uses "vous" by default. A surf school or backpacker hostel can choose a more relaxed tone, and we review it with you before go-live.
Numbers the French way
French counts 70 as "soixante-dix" and 80 as "quatre-vingts", Belgian and Swiss callers may say "septante" and "nonante", and phone numbers in France are often said in pairs. Numbers spoken in French were transcribed correctly in our tests, and the receptionist reads a New Zealand or Australian number back digit by digit to confirm it.
French with English place names
A caller from Nouméa or Papeete will say "Rotorua", "Queenstown" or "Gold Coast" in the middle of a French sentence. The receptionist hears French and English in the same call, including a caller who mixes them, and we test your own place and product names before go-live.
An example call in French
A visitor books two seats on a boat trip and the agent reads his number back. Illustrative example, not a recording.

Très bien. À quel nom dois-je faire la réservation, et quel est votre numéro de téléphone ?
Very good. What name should I put the booking under, and what is your phone number?
Caller
Au nom de Dubois. Mon numéro, c'est zéro deux un, trois quatre cinq, six sept huit neuf.
Under Dubois. My number is 021 345 6789.
Camille
Je vous relis le numéro : zéro deux un, trois quatre cinq, six sept huit neuf. C'est bien ça ?
Let me read the number back: 021 345 6789. Is that right?
Caller
Oui, c'est ça.
Yes, that's it.
Camille
Parfait, c'est noté au nom de Dubois : deux places pour l'excursion de samedi à quatorze heures. Merci et à samedi !
Perfect, that's booked under Dubois: two seats on Saturday's 2pm trip. Thank you, see you on Saturday!

French AI receptionist: common questions
Which French accents does the AI receptionist speak?
Two: Camille has a Parisian female voice and Étienne a Canadian French male voice. There is no Belgian, Swiss, Pacific or African French voice. Callers with those accents can talk to either agent, and before go-live we run test calls with your own callers so you can hear it for yourself.
Can callers switch between English and French?
Yes. The receptionist hears French and English in the same call, including a caller who mixes the two. Callers can switch back and forth as often as they like and the agent follows, replying in the language they last used.
Does it understand phone numbers spoken in French?
Yes. Phone numbers spoken in French were transcribed correctly in our tests. The receptionist also reads numbers back to the caller before saving them, so any mistake gets fixed on the call.
Will it use vous or tu with callers?
It uses the polite "vous" by default, which is what most French speakers expect when they call a business. If your brand is more relaxed, such as a surf school or hostel, we can set a warmer tone and review it with you.
Can I try a French demo now?
Yes. Talk to the French agents on this page, in your browser. Calls run for up to four minutes.
Can we keep our 1300 or 1800 number?
Yes. You keep your number and forward calls to the AI receptionist, all the time or only when you are busy, do not answer or are closed. A mobile number can forward the same way. You do not need a new number.
Can it transfer calls to our staff and send a summary?
Yes. It can put a caller through to a staff member's mobile when they need a person, and it sends a summary of every call to your team, with the transcript in your portal.
Can it give medical, legal or financial advice in French?
No. In regulated industries the agent handles admin only: bookings, opening hours, directions and messages. Anything that needs advice goes to your qualified staff.
Does a French receptionist cost more than English?
No. French calls are charged at the same per-minute rate as English, from 95c a minute down to 77c in New Zealand and 71c in Australia. Credit never expires and every plan has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Where is call data stored?
Transcripts, call records, contact details and billing are stored in Sydney. The live audio, recording files, speech processing and the language model run offshore. We meet cross-border accountability requirements through documented arrangements with our voice infrastructure partner.
