What is a German AI receptionist?
A German AI receptionist answers your business phone in German or English, so travellers, customers and partners can ask questions, book and leave messages without waiting for a staff member.
Waboom AI offers Lena, a Standard German voice, with call handling set up around your business. Built for businesses across New Zealand and Australia.

Try our German AI receptionist
Talk to Lena in English or German. Switch back and forth during the call, or mix the two, and she follows you.

Start in English, then switch to German.
Your own AI receptionist is set up around your business: opening hours, services, bookings and how calls are passed to your staff.
Where German-language phone answering helps
For businesses that look after German-speaking travellers, working holiday makers and trading partners, an answer in German takes the stress out of the call.

Campervan hire and tours
Travellers can change a pick-up, ask about routes, add extras or book a tour in German, often from the road. The receptionist records the booking number and passes changes to your team with a summary in English.

Accommodation and hospitality
Room and table bookings, check-in times, directions and late arrival messages in German, while your front desk looks after the guests in front of them.

Automotive workshops
Take service and repair bookings from German-speaking customers and travellers, with the vehicle, the problem and a callback number written down before your mechanic picks up the job.

Engineering and export firms
Give partners and suppliers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland a professional first answer in German. The receptionist takes the enquiry, books a meeting and routes it to the right person.
How we set up your German AI receptionist
Three steps. We do the heavy lifting.
Tell us about your callers
Which languages they speak, what they call about, and what a good call ends with: a booking, a message or a transfer.
We build and test it in German
Your greeting, hours, services and booking rules in English and German, tested on calls with your own names and places.
Go live on your number
Forward your existing number. Every call comes with a transcript and summary, and we keep improving it.
What makes German-language calls different?
Speaking German well on the phone takes more than translating English sentences.
One Standard German voice
Lena speaks Standard German (Hochdeutsch). Austrian and Swiss callers can talk to Lena too, but there is no Austrian or Swiss voice, so we test with your own callers before go-live. If many of your callers speak strong Swiss German dialect, we test with them before go-live.
Sie and du
German callers expect the polite "Sie" from a business they do not know. The receptionist uses "Sie" by default. A backpacker hostel or surf school can choose the relaxed "du", and we review the tone with you before go-live.
Numbers said backwards
German says the units before the tens: 47 is "siebenundvierzig", seven and forty. On the phone many people say "zwo" instead of "zwei" so it is not confused with "drei". Numbers spoken in German were transcribed correctly in our tests, and the receptionist reads booking and phone numbers back to confirm.
Halb drei is 2:30
"Halb drei" means half past two, not half past three, and German speakers often use the 24-hour clock, such as "vierzehn Uhr". The receptionist confirms every booking time in plain words so no one turns up an hour late.
An example call in German
A traveller moves a campervan pick-up and the agent reads the booking number back. Illustrative example, not a recording.

German AI receptionist: common questions
Which German accents does the AI receptionist speak?
One: Lena has a Standard German female voice. There is no Austrian or Swiss voice. Austrian and Swiss callers can talk to Lena too, and before go-live we run test calls with your own callers so you can hear how it handles their accent.
Can callers switch between English and German?
Yes. The receptionist hears German and English in the same call, including a caller who mixes the two. Callers can switch back and forth as often as they like and the agent follows, replying in the language they last used.
Does it understand phone numbers spoken in German?
Yes. Phone numbers spoken in German were transcribed correctly in our tests. The receptionist also reads numbers back to the caller before saving them, so any mistake gets fixed on the call.
Does it use Sie or du?
It uses the polite "Sie" by default, which is what German speakers expect when they call a business. If your brand is more relaxed, such as a hostel or surf school, we can set it to "du" and review the tone with you.
Can I try a German demo now?
Yes. Talk to the German agent on this page, in your browser. Calls run for up to four minutes.
Can we keep our 1300 or 1800 number?
Yes. You keep your number and forward calls to the AI receptionist, all the time or only when you are busy, do not answer or are closed. A mobile number can forward the same way. You do not need a new number.
Can it transfer calls to our staff and send a summary?
Yes. It can put a caller through to a staff member's mobile when they need a person, and it sends a summary of every call to your team, with the transcript in your portal.
Can it give medical, legal or financial advice in German?
No. In regulated industries the agent handles admin only: bookings, opening hours, directions and messages. Anything that needs advice goes to your qualified staff.
Does a German receptionist cost more than English?
No. German calls are charged at the same per-minute rate as English, from 95c a minute down to 77c in New Zealand and 71c in Australia. Credit never expires and every plan has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Where is call data stored?
Transcripts, call records, contact details and billing are stored in Sydney. The live audio, recording files, speech processing and the language model run offshore. We meet cross-border accountability requirements through documented arrangements with our voice infrastructure partner.
