Explains the variance in the tab the accountant already has open and drafts the commentary beside it. The accountant corrects the causes and signs.
Claude for Excel
Reads the workbook, writes the reconciliation formula and explains what it did, cell by cell. The reviewer checks the formula before it goes into the live workbook.
Xero
The P&L, aged receivables and bank exports feed the commentary and the chase emails. Nothing posts back to Xero without a person approving it.
MYOB
The same exports and the same method as Xero. The LLM reads the MYOB report and drafts, and the accountant signs.

For larger Australian teams, saved search exports become the month-end narrative draft. The controller reviews each line against the general ledger.

Does AI do the accounting?
No. The LLM drafts the commentary, the chase email or the reconciliation formula, and a person in finance checks it before it goes anywhere. The accountant still owns the ledger and the sign off, and the session builds a reviewer step into every output.
Is it safe to put our financial data into an AI tool?
Yes, on a business tier. Copilot runs inside your Microsoft 365 tenant, and Claude for Work and Gemini for Workspace do not train on your data. We connect the system or load the export inside that tier, rather than pasting bank statements into a consumer chat.
Copilot in Excel, Claude or Gemini for a finance team?
Use the platform your business is licensed and governed to use, so Microsoft 365 teams get Copilot in Excel. Google Workspace teams get Gemini in Sheets, and teams on Xero or MYOB with mixed stacks get Claude with its Excel add-in and connectors. We teach the same method on all three, with the same reviewer step.
